The Challenge

The project involved replacing the old system with a modern, addressable solution that could accommodate various building layouts, including several outbuildings. A robust and flexible system was needed to integrate seamlessly with existing equipment, such as door retainers, while also incorporating new wireless and hard-wired devices. Additionally, a separate building with its own conventional system required a reliable communication link to the upgraded system.

The Solution

M&G Fire Protection, a trusted partner for Knight Group since 1999, were invited to participate in the tender for the upgrade project. Being based within 5 miles of Knight Group's facilities, they were well-positioned to deliver a tailored solution. After successfully winning the tender, they implemented the following:

• System Installation: A 2-loop addressable Advanced Electronics MXPro 5202 panel was installed, using Apollo protocol devices. The design included both hardwired loops and REACH Wireless devices to connect the outbuildings.
• Integration with Existing Equipment: Existing door retainers were wired into the system, and new Apollo loop-powered door retainers (ADR) were added for enhanced safety.
• Communication Link: A Scope F Link radio system was installed for a remote outbuilding. Zone monitors and sounder controllers were also used to make use of existing conventional equipment that would be under the control of the addressable panel.
• Containment and Cabling: The team installed containment using a combination of trunking, direct clipping, and new cable trays to ensure a secure and tidy installation.

By utilising advanced technology and maintaining attention to detail, M&G successfully upgraded the fire alarm system, meeting Knight Group's health and safety goals. The modern addressable fire alarm system provides enhanced safety, reliability, and scalability, ensuring that Knight Group remains well-protected and compliant with current standards.
