Edgeware Hospital

Healthcare

Edgware Hospital required a critical upgrade to its fire safety system to ensure it met modern standards and reduced the risk of false alarms, which could disrupt the day-to-day operations of the hospital.

The project involved replacing an aged, closed protocol system, with a modern Kentec Taktis system, integrating Apollo Fire Detector Ltd devices using the hospital's existing infrastructure.

The Challenge

The hospital's existing system was causing unwanted alarms and posing a risk of disruption in a busy medical environment. The client needed a reliable and intelligent fire detection system that could work seamlessly with the current wiring setup, avoiding significant downtime and operational interruptions during installation.

The Solution

AFS, led by Operations Director Will Espiner, opted for the Kentec Taktis panel and Apollo's Soteria range, known for its intelligence in minimising false alarms. The installation used the existing cabling to reduce costs and downtime, with Apollo's Intelligent Open Area AV devices replacing the closed protocol system. This choice provided a robust, future-proof system that enhanced the hospital's fire safety without causing unnecessary disturbance to hospital services.

Attaching to the first-fix XPERT Base, the new devices simplified installation whilst saving time and effort during loop testing, providing an efficient and smooth solution for wall-mounted sounders. The project was completed on time, with minimal disruption to the hospital's operations.

The Soteria range provided a neat and efficient solution for replacing the hospital’s fire alarm system. It minimised unwanted alarms and allowed for a smooth installation using existing infrastructure.
